Everything You Need to Know About Refurbishing Your Walk-in

Refurbished Walk-in

Day-to-day operations, especially in a foodservice setting, can be rough on a walk-in cooler or freezer. Typical walk-in lifespans are 14-16 years, but this number can decrease if as walk-in has not been well maintained. Even if your walk-in has seen some wear and tear over the years, it’s possible its life could be extended with a refurbishment.

What can be refurbished?

Doors, floors and walls can typically be refurbished at a fraction of the cost of a new walk-in. Refurbishment is encouraged when the walk-in is still holding temperature and is considered sound — having no major structural or material defects that refurbishment cannot fully address. That condition can be easily determined with a phone call or a site visit.

Is my walk-in a candidate for refurbishment?

Your walk-in could be a candidate for our refurbishment service if it is in sound condition. A new walk-in may not be necessary if you could extend the life of your current walk-in for another 5-7 years. The Everidge team will refurbish your walk-in even if it is another brand.

Should I just buy a new walk-in?

The Everidge foodservice and Construction Services teams will help evaluate your walk-in and let you know whether refurbishment is a worthwhile investment or if buying a new one is a better option. We’ll never recommend a new walk-in if a refurbishment is a better option, just like we’ll never recommend refurbishment if buying new is wiser. We always have your best interests in mind.

Is refurbishment worth the cost?

A typical refurbishment is about one-third the cost of a new walk-in. Consider that a well-maintained refurbishment could add 5-7 years to the life of your walk-in, and it could have a great return on your investment. Restoring damaged interiors will ultimately give your walk-in better insulation and save you money on reduced energy rates. In addition, many of our customers find that refurbishment makes a significant difference in their kitchen inspections.

What if I need a new door?

As the piece of walk-in equipment that sees the most use, doors are often the first to go. It’s common to see units that are in great working condition that only need a replacement door. Everidge replacement doors seal around the inside and outside of the opening, like a sandwich, to provide an optimal solution for any walk-in brand.

Choosing Everidge to refurbish your walk-in gives you the strength and expertise of a quality manufacturer that is with you every step of the way. Contact us for an assessment of your used walk-in to find out whether refurbishment is an option for you.
