Making Your Walk-in Safer with Sanisteel®

Making Your Walk-in Safer with Sanisteel®

Has your walk-in cooler or freezer ever received a health code violation for mold? Have your employees ever slipped in your walk-in? Everidge has a solution for making your walk-in safer: Sanisteel®.

All three Everidge brands — CrownTonka, ICS and ThermalRite — offer Sanisteel® as an add-on feature to any walk-in cooler or freezer. Sanisteel® is an antimicrobial coating that both inhibits the growth of germs and provides easily cleanable surfaces. At a less than five percent cost increase, Sanisteel® provides a significant return on investment, increasing both food and employee safety.

Antimicrobial process

In order to make a walk-in antimicrobial, the coated Sanisteel® product makes up the surface of panels for your walk-in, including ceiling, walls and floors. The coating’s primary surface — a sealed, clear acrylic — is applied in multiple layers with activation agents for complete adhesion and encapsulation of the base metal.

The Sanisteel® coating is proven to be effective in preventing and fighting more than 650 bacteria strains, including:

  • Escherichia coli
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Salmonella typhimurium
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Legionella pneumophila
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Antimicrobial certification

When you buy an antimicrobial walk-in from Everidge, it is certified from the National Sanitary Foundation (NSF), displaying the NSF certification labeling right on the box. This certification demonstrates the NSF’s regular on-site inspections of Everidge’s manufacturing facilities and frequent product testing. In order to ensure NSF’s strict requirements are met, panels must be built by Everidge with the Sanisteel® product and professionally foamed in place and installed.

Antimicrobial floors

You may be surprised to hear that Everidge walk-in floors are coated with Sanisteel®. In fact, Everidge walk-ins are the only coolers in the industry to offer antimicrobial floors. Incorporating Sanisteel® to the floors allows for the entire interior of the box to be sealed, guarding against harmful bacteria growth.

Food safety benefits

In addition to the antimicrobial benefits, there are a number of food safety benefits that come with Sanisteel® coatings. Mold, an immediate health code violation and threat to food safety, cannot live in an antimicrobial walk-in. Because of the sealing nature of Sanisteel®, there are no areas that could trap debris or waste and no fissures in panel surfaces where microbes can stay and begin to grow. Even the gaskets are mold resistant.

Sanisteel® is also extremely easy to clean. Unlike aluminum or galvanized metal, Sanisteel® will resist hand- or fingerprints, keeping your walk-in appearance fresh and clean. Floors coated with Sanisteel® differ from treaded floor plates by having no sharp edges to damage cleaning devices or hold onto debris, requiring only a simple sweeping. Walls and other surfaces are easy to wipe down thanks to the smooth coating, and high-acid foods, like some prepared chickens, have little effect on Sanisteel®. Even grease and other sticky or adhesive substances are easily washed away with only soap and water. Simplifying the cleaning process helps ensure food’s safety during its cooling phase.

Employee safety benefits

Any debris that falls onto the floor of a walk-in can be hazardous to employee safety. That’s why Everidge coolers coated in Sanisteel® include a dimpled floor surface that prevents slips and falls while still not trapping food or debris. The acrylic finish of Sanisteel® actually produces more traction as friction is applied and exceeds ASTM fall ratings standards.
